Thanks to new funding, the Lake Effects Robotics program will introduce the FIRST LEGO League to elementary students thanks in part to a Community Foundation for Kingston & Area grant of almost $15,000.

Community Foundation supports new robotics mentorship program at Limestone schools.
This mentorship program incorporates elements of the arts, literacy, numeracy, and technology. Students will develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic applications in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and even presentation skills. Teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc. and then are challenged to develop a solution.
This fall, Lake Effect Robotics will establish school teams at Molly Brant Elementary School, J.G. Simcoe Public School, and Module Vanier, along with their ongoing mentorship program with students attending Calvin Park Public School.
Team 2708 Lake Effect Robotics is a member of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an international organization founded to inspire young people to pursue a field in engineering. The Foundation is extremely proud of the accomplishments of these dedicated students and community members, many of whom were once students of this team.
