Junior students in the lunchtime knitting club at R.G. Sinclair Public School are developing fine motor skills, numeracy skills, critical thinking and creativity. Students use math to count and measure their projects, and access their creative side in choosing the colours and materials. Growth mindset –believing in our capacity to learn and being persistent when we hit roadblock – is key to students’ success. All of the pieces that the students knit are donated to local organizations. So far, hats have been given to the Kingston Youth Shelter and Martha’s Table, and blankets have been provided to the Kingston Humane Society.
